Ferromanganese is a ferroalloy with high content of manganese, made by heating the oxides MnO2 and Fe2O3, combined with carbon, in either a blast or an electric furnace. The oxides undergo carbothermal reduction producing the ferromanganese powder.
Internationally recognised specifications for ferromanganese powder come in several grades and include standard, medium-carbon and low-carbon levels. High quality ferromanganese powder is safe to use and ensure high stability during the various lavoration processes.
Ferromanganese is used as a deoxidizer for steel. The advantage of combining powdered iron oxide with manganese oxide results in a lower melting point of the combined alloy compared to pure manganese oxide. This finds main applications in the production of welding electrodes, in the chemical sector, manufacturing and foundries.
